Are you the next Dartington Photographer of the Year?

Monday 29 June

The Dartington Photographer of the year competition is extending its deadline for entrants until July 10th – so that it runs parallel to the launch of Alice Carfrae (last year’s winners) photographic exhibition that is currently showing in the Dartington Roundhouse Café.

25 year old Alice Carfrae said, “The exhibition features the best bits from my time at Dartington, showing images from a year in the life of the charity, covering the arts, sustainability and social justice. It’s a mixture of documentary style and shorts from around the estate – along with photographs from some of the big events.”

Dartington and Visit South Devon, who are running this year’s competition, are looking for 2 new exciting photographers to follow in Alice’s footsteps and win one of two £2,500 bursary prizes – to spend 2 days a month from August 2009 to August 2010 documenting the work of the charity and photographing the magic of the region. This is an amazing prize and an enormous career boost for budding photographers keen to make a living out of their passion.

Alice went onto say, “Dartington is a really inspirational place to photograph, not just because of the beautiful scenery but also because of the exciting and interesting things that go on here and the people who make it tick. This has been a really fantastic opportunity for me and I highly recommend the competition to any emerging photographers and photography students. I would enter again if I could.”

During her time at Dartington, Alice has taken over 800 images for the Dartington photo library, many of which have appeared all over the regional and national media. Alice has also been invited back to work at Dartington this summer photographing the Dartington International Summer School and has been contracted to capture some of the charities sensitive social justice projects.

Dartington’s Chief Executive Vaughan Lindsay said, “Alice has done a marvelous job in bringing the activities and people of Dartington to life through her sensitive and imaginative photography style. Now we are really looking forward to year 2 of the competition, working with Visit South Devon to support another two emerging photographers in their careers, asking them to create some of the most inspiring images in South Devon.”

Alice’s exhibition will run throughout June and she will also be one of a panel of 5 judges for the new competition – why not make sure you are one of the 5 runners up she will be judging?
