Dartington Trustee Knighted in New Year’s Honours’ List

Dartington Trustee, Nicholas Kenyon CBE has been knighted in the New Year’s Honours’ List 2008. Everybody at Dartington would like to congratulate Sir Nicholas on this richly deserved honour, awarded in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the arts.

Appointed a Trustee in December 2004, Nicholas Kenyon became Managing Director of the Barbican Centre in October 2007, after completing 12 seasons as Director of the BBC Proms last summer. For over three decades, Sir Nicholas has reviewed, promoted and developed classical music across the UK.

A former music critic for The New Yorker, The Times and Observer, he was appointed Controller of BBC Radio 3 1992-8, responsible for the award-winning seasons Fairest Isle and Sounding the Century, and then oversaw the BBC’s programming for the Millennium and ran the BBC’s Live Events and TV Classical Music departments.

“This is a fantastic honour, and it certainly shows the importance of classical music and the arts in our lives; it’s really a recognition of all the work by colleagues at the BBC and throughout the profession who made the BBC Proms over the last decade such a thriving, flourishing event.” Sir Nicholas Kenyon

Dartington CEO, Vaughan Lindsay is delighted to see Sir Nicholas’ work recognised:

“I’d like to send not only my own warmest congratulations, but those from everyone at Dartington, on the terrific news of Sir Nicholas’ knighthood. It is a richly deserved award. Dartington judges itself by the difference it makes, the new thinking it stimulates and the support it gives to remarkable individuals who make ideas happen and bring about positive change. Dartington is indeed fortunate to have Trustees of the calibre of Sir Nicholas shaping and helping us deliver our vision for a vibrant future for the estate. I wish him continued success and look forward to working with him in 2008 on our shared vision for Dartington.”

Sir Nicholas was appointed a CBE in 2001 for his services to music and Millennium broadcasting.
