Dartington’s commitment and ambition for the arts have been reinforced with the appointment of Peter Boyden as its new Director of Arts from April. With a career stretching over 25 years, Peter has been a leading figure in the arts for many years.
As Chair of Culture South West, former Creative Director of the Eden Project and author of the ‘Boyden Report’, which was instrumental in increasing Treasury investment in theatre by £25m a year, he has helped shape arts policy across the South West region and nationally.
The Dartington Hall Trust is embarking on a journey to become one of the most significant and vibrant arts establishments in the UK – kickstarting its ambition with a development residency by internationally acclaimed composer, choreographer and multi-disciplinary artist Meredith Monk.
Chief Executive Vaughan Lindsay said that Dartington was delighted to learn of the Arts Council intention to continue its funding for at least another year. “This is a testament to the work of the charity over the last three years in developing innovative arts activities across the region and is a vote of confidence in our future plans.”
Both Dartington College of Arts and University College Falmouth are grateful to the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) who have offered funding to enable the merger, and to the EU Convergence Partnership for their support in principle for this project.
A Certificate in Education was established at Schumacher College in 2007 to provide a platform for participants to develop their professional practice in adult education for sustainability.
The heat-seeking camera is a new technology, funded by the ‘Friends of Dartington’. It is being employed to help reduce the estate’s current dependency on oil, which makes up the largest part of Dartington’s 1100 tonne carbon footprint.
South Devon College visited the Dartington Hall estate in early March to promote a new creative and media diploma, kick starting the first stage in a creative partnership – with a view to boosting vocational arts education in the South West.
The young musicians learnt and performed specially commissioned pieces of music by three of the most exciting contemporary composers in the UK.
12 teams of social justice champions from eight countries gathered at Dartington Hall in March to take part in the first ever international conference into the most effective use of social research evidence in the child and adult services.
The Totnes Festival will be back from 5 to 14 September: bigger, brighter and building on the successes of its first two years.

And as the Trust develops its ambitious plans for the future, the opportunities for and benefits to Business Circle members will grow and grow.
The online bookings are now open for the Dartington Summer Youth Programme – a summer festival of creative courses in music and the arts running from August 3-23 especially for young people aged 6 to 19.
