About Dartington
The Dartington Photography Competition - How to Enter
The 2 new ‘Photographers of the Year’ will be tasked with one of two jobs.
- Creating a comprehensive and dynamic photo archive of The Dartington Hall Trust and the charity’s pioneering work in the arts, social justice and sustainability.
- Generating 1,000 images of South Devon to be used in the publications and marketing campaigns of Visit South Devon
There is a possibility for a job share, where both photographers work across both remits.
The winner will be selected by an expert panel for their ability to take innovative, pioneering, experimental and courageous photographs.
Open to emerging talent throughout Devon and Cornwall – you will need to be over 18 (on the 1 August 2009) and a pioneering individual with lots of ideas. We are specifically looking for photography students coming out of college or university, or highly talented amateurs with a strong desire to become professional.
To Enter the Competition Follow these Steps
Step 1: Closing date 10 July 2009
- Send a maximum of 5 pictures to Dartington:
- 3 of which should showcase innovation in the arts, social justice or sustainability – taken somewhere in the South West.
- 2 images should showcase South Devon, encapsulating the magic of the region. Visit South Devon covers the areas of South Hams and Teignbridge and so photos must be of those areas!
- We also want to know a bit about you and why you want to win this competition. Remember keep it snappy.
A selection of the entries will be featured in the Western Morning News.
Step 2: The final Shoot Out
The top 6 entrants will then be invited to spend a fantastic day on the Dartington Hall estate in the middle to end of July, which will also include a photo shoot of a nearby South Devon location. The finalists will be asked to take pictures of each of Dartington’s 3 areas of charitable work – the arts, social justice and sustainability – along with 2 images promoting the region.
The photographers, who, in the judging panel’s opinion, most successfully capture all 3 areas of Dartington’s work and the aspirations of Visit South Devon – will be our winners. There is an opportunity for a both chosen photographers to work for both Dartington and Visit South Devon – depending where their strengths lie.
The winner will be announced in early August
