As part of a drive to become financially sustainable, Dartington has taken the decision to introduce parking charges at our car parks on the Dartington Hall estate and at the Shops at Dartington.
From 20th July 2012 an hourly parking charge of £0.30p will apply in the estate car parks between 8am and 11pm.
New charging structure – from 28 February 2013 as follows:
At the Shops at Dartington:
At Meadowbrook:
On the core Estate:
All car parks allow 15 minutes free with a ticket from the machine to continue.
It currently costs in excess of £1 million per year to maintain the estate, which is open to all and free to enjoy and explore. Parking fees will contribute towards the on-going maintenance of the estate’s roads, footpaths, buildings, grounds and gardens.
Parking charges will be payable by cash or mobile phone and change for the meters will be available from the Visitor Centre at Dartington Hall or the Craft Gallery at The Shops at Dartington.
Blue badge parking for visitors with disabilities will continue to be free and the first 15 minutes of parking are free of charge for everyone to enable short visits, drop offs and pick ups. Parking at The Shops at Dartington will be refunded on purchases of £10 and over.
Vaughan Lindsay, Dartington’s CEO of The Dartington Hall Trust, said: “For Dartington to thrive well into the future we must sometimes make difficult decisions. We believe this decision will help us to continue to invest in the estate and stay on the path toward financial sustainability”.
He added: “We will of course monitor the parking situation and the financial impact of the change closely over the coming months.”
The Dartington estate is one of the largest, publicly accessible open green spaces in the South Hams. It is a place of experiment, enterprise and education and home to world famous institutions and events including Schumacher College and Dartington International Summer School.
