Records of Leonard Elmhirst relating to the County of Devon and the pre and postwar role that Leonard Elmhirst played in the running, employment and development of Totnes, the South Hams, and Devon as a whole.

The records contain correspondence arranged alphabetically, between Leonard Elmhirst and organisations and residents of Devon. Subjects cover: employment opportunities; financial assistance; the Dartington Hall experiment; visits to Dartington and the Gardens; local events; Dartington Church and Parish; and social activities.

The series also contains records documenting Leonard Elmhirst's involvement with associations in Devon. The correspondence and records primarily regard: financial assistance; lectures and talks by Leonard; membership and appointments to the post of chairman, president and vice-president of associations including: The Devonshire Association, with Leonard acting as president of the association (1959-1960).

Included in the series are records relating to Dartington Parish Council accumulated by Leonard Elmhirst while serving as a member of the Council. The records contain information relating to the planning and activities of the Council including: memoranda, agendas and minutes from the Council meetings.

Materials include: letters; reports; plans; photographs; press cuttings; publications; receipts; telegrams; programmes and catalogues.
