This series consists of records accumulated by Leonard Elmhirst regarding the land, and includes: agricultural economics research; rural regeneration; the development of industry in rural areas; experiments, employment, training courses, and research work at Dartington Hall; and proposals developing the concept of a land trust. The records detail Leonard's active involvement in, theoretical and practical advice to, and financial support of various associations, institutions, societies, universities, and individual scholars studying agriculture and rural regeneration. These included, amongst others: the Agricultural Research Council; Agricultural Economics Research Institute; Agricultural Economics Society; the Ministry of Town and Country Planning; the International Peoples' College; Rothamsted Experimental Station; Seale-Hayne Agricultural College; Association for Regional Planning and Development; Council for the Preservation of Rural England; Co-operative Union Limited; Institute of Rural Life; the Horace Plunkett Foundation; and the Rural Reconstruction Association.

The records consist of: correspondence; minutes; memoranda; reports; printed pamphlets; publications; press cuttings; programmes; maps; notes; papers; and articles.
