Dartington's Great Hall during restoration

Dartington is screening an on-going series of short films from its historical film archive alongside selected feature films in its cinema programme.

CREATION [PG] + Galapagos
16 to 22 October 2009
Alongside this story of Charles Darwin’s life and work, we screen Galapagos, a five minute short shot in 1937 on the Galapagos Islands by the Dartington Film Unit. The documentary stands as perhaps the first film record of the actual birds, mammals and reptiles that Darwin used as the basis for his theories on natural selection.

Moira Shearer in The Red Shoes

THE RED SHOES [U] + archive short
18 to 23 December 2009
The classic ballet film, the sets for which were designed by Dartington’s Hein Heckroth, is accompanied by an archive short detailing the rebuilding of the central courtyard, finishing with Christmas celebrations in the Great Hall.
