Laban: Then & Now
Symposium / Workshops / Training / Performance
Sunday 6 – Thursday 10 July 2008
Introduction
Marking the 70th anniversary of Laban’s arrival at Dartington in 1938, and the 50th anniversary of his death, Laban: Then and Now is a four-day exploration of his influence and legacy through a programme of workshops, lectures and debate, exhibition and film.
The event is part of a national celebration of Laban’s life and work, which also takes place in Manchester and London.

Programme of Activities
Each morning and evening participatory activities take place, including morning movement classes and practical choreutic meditation, lecture demonstrations and talks, and evening performances and film screenings. In addition to the above from 11am – 4pm each day participants can choose to take part in either symposium events – including talks on space harmony and contextualisation of the period of Laban’s time at Dartington – or creative dance workshops led by Anna Carlisle and Rosemary Lee or Regina Miranda.
Programme contributors and tutors include Anna Carlisle, Rosemary Lee, Regina Miranda, Valerie Preston-Dunlop, Warren Lamb, Larraine Nicholas, Betty Redfern, Gordon Curl and Transitions Dance Company.
For the duration of the event participants also have access to two exhibitions showing on the estate: an archive exhibition of Laban images and letters, including a bust of Laban by Willi Soukop, and an exhibition of Laban’s drawings.
