South West Music School runs a two stage application process which is informal and friendly with the emphasis being put on a combination of potential and passion for music as well as exceptional talent.

But don’t take our word for I, listen to what the students say:

“Really looking forward to the next SWMS residential, it’s great having a weekend just totally dedicated to all aspects of music. I’m also looking forward to seeing the other students, as they’re the best musicians of the same age as me I’ve met, it’s great fun playing with them.”

“SWMS has provided me with fantastic, top quality instrumental teachers who are helping me to progress, fast!. Since I’ve been on SWMS I’ve been introduced to different styles of music which I hadn’t experienced before.”

“I enjoy working with other musicians who all work in different ways which I can learn from”

“I love being with people who share a passion for music, want to work hard for it and have fun”

“The support I need is determined and provided”

“There have been many opportunities that have opened up”

“the last course had a hardworking but social atmosphere which I’m looking forward to experiencing again”

“you are given amazing opportunities to work with people who can be beneficial to your playing in ways you didn’t realise could make a difference”

“my overall musicianship has improved enormously”

“I can’t wait for the next residential – it’s really exciting to have a piece specially commissioned for us!”

SWMS has opened so many doors for me – it’s not just about the music, it’s about the people…I’d never have learnt about the teamwork needed if it wasn’t for this.”
