In July 2008 award-winning US choreographer/director/media artist Stephan Koplowitz took TaskForce, a newly created company of artists drawn from the fields of dance, music and visual media, to six separate sites across Los Angeles in order to create new site-specific dance and multi-media performances that engage the local community in a creative dialogue.
The inspiration for creating TaskForce was to have the means to enter into a creative dialogue with a chosen area/community. TaskForce creates site-specific performances for several sites within a short period of time that actively engage a variety of artists and organizations derived from communities where the company performs. TaskForce aims to renew people’s perspective on their environment and through performance enter into conversations about the creative process and public life.
In June 2009 TaskForce moves to Plymouth and Dartington to re-imagine the project for a UK audience and creative community in a number of Plymouth’s iconic outdoor spaces. The company – comprising eight dancers and one composer/musician – will move across a range of locations in the Plymouth/Dartington area and create performances in response to the theme of water, finding unusual, inspiring and challenging spaces.
