Peter Boyden the new Director of the Arts at Dartington will be speaking at the Lib Dem Conference in Bournemouth on Monday 15 September, discussing the relationship between arts funding and governmental policy.
Peter, who is the current chairman of Culture South West and former Creative Director of Eden – has the significant and exciting task of leading the creative evolution of the Dartington Hall Trust – a pioneering charity nurturing ideas to address pressing problems.
The hot topic event is entitled ‘Arms Length or Arm Lock’ – and will be a heated debate looking closely at the relationship between government and the Arts and discussing how much control and influence government policy should have on the creative industries.
Peter is considered to be a leading expert on this area and will be talking alongside the Lib Dem Shadow Secretary of State Don Foster MP and the Chief Executive of the Arts Council Alan Davey to discuss the different alternative models.
Andrew Whyte, Director of Advocacy and Communications at the Arts Council England, said “We are delighted that Peter Boyden is going to speak at Arts Council England’s ‘Arms length or armlock?’ debate. He is a leading figure in the national arts world with an excellent track record of shaping public policy. It will be interesting to see where he stands on the important question of should politicians have more or less control over the arts.”
Peter Boyden said, “It is vital that arts organisations driving the creative future of the UK are involved in this critical national debate. I am looking forward to speaking on some of the key issues facing arts in the UK, including the future role that government will play in setting arts policy.”
