Wim Wenders: A Trick of Light [PG]

Thursday 22 May / 2pm
Cast Udo Kier, Nadine Buttner
Germany 1995 / Colour / Subtitles / 1hr 19m
A leading light of the New German Cinema, Wenders came into his own with his series of road movies inspired by classic American films. With a photographer’s eye for landscape and architecture as well as a fine ear for music, Wenders has given us some of the most poignant depictions of haunted individuals ever captured on film.
Made for his Munich Film School alma mater this is an account of the triumphs and travails of German movie pioneers Max and Emil Skladanowsky. Best is the interview with Max’s daughter Lucie, aged 93, but the whole film is charming and – unusually for Wenders – playful.
