Dartington Hall is located 1½ miles from Totnes in the heart of South Devon known as the South Hams, renowned for its beautiful countryside, picturesque villages and mild climate.

Finding us by car

From Exeter the M5 becomes the A38. The road then divides, left to Torbay or straight on to Plymouth. Take the Plymouth (A38) road.

After passing the two slip roads to Ashburton take the next exit, signed to Totnes, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge. Turn left onto the A384 and follow signs to Totnes. After approximately 4 miles, you will enter the village of Dartington.

Shortly after the village sign, turn left at Dartington Church and follow this road for 1 mile. The main car park is on the left, below the over-spill car park. The entrance to the courtyard is directly opposite the main car park.

From Plymouth take the A38 up to the A385 turning, signposted Dartington. After approximately 3½ miles you reach the mini roundabout in Dartington village. Bear left towards Buckfastleigh and after ¼ mile turn right at the church. Follow this road for 1 mile. The main car park is on the left, below the over-spill car park. The entrance to the courtyard is directly opposite the main car park.

Finding us by rail

The nearest rail station is at Totnes (on the main Paddington – Penzance line), approximately 1½ miles from Dartington Hall (approx. 35 min walk/10 min taxi ride). There is a level footpath to Dartington Hall directly from the station which travels alongside the River Dart for ¾ mile and meets with the Dartington Hall drive. Turn right here and walk the remaining ¾ mile along the drive. (NB the drive portion of the walk is uphill and may be tiring if pushing wheelchairs or buggies or carrying children.)

There is a taxi rank at Totnes Station.

Finding us by bus and coach

The number 165 serves Dartington Hall from Buckfastleigh and Totnes. For timetables and information please call traveline on 0870 608 2 608.

There are coaches from London (Victoria Coach Station) and other major cities which go to Newton Abbot Railway Station. You can then connect with a train to Totnes. Some coaches go direct to Royal Seven Stars at Totnes.

Information for Cyclists

There is a sustrans cycle path running along the edge of the Dartington Hall estate, from Dartington village to Totnes, which intersects with the lower Dartington drive that leads uphill from Totnes to Dartington Hall. The drive is also used by vehicles and pedestrians but speed bumps and speed restrictions are in place. Once at Dartington, 8 covered bike ‘parking spaces’ are available in the main car park and 5 further uncovered spaces can be found behind the East Wing. Please bring your own secure bike lock.
