Internationally respected ecologist, writer and Ghandi disciple Satish Kumar is making two appearances in Totnes to talk about his new book, the work of Dartington’s Schumacher College and his soon to be aired BBC2 documentary Earth Pilgrim.
Satish Kumar is considered to be one of the foremost spiritual and ecological experts in the UK. He is the Programme Director of Schumacher College, the editor of Resurgence Magazine and has been at the forefront of the environmental movement for over 40 years. Satish has recently been interviewed on BBC Radio 2 & 4 and throughout the Guardian society pages, talking about his unique experiences walking the globe.
“I am an earth Pilgrim. If I’ve learnt anything from my journey in life, it’s come through wandering this world.” Satish Kumar
Satish was drawn to Dartington in 1967 during his 8000-mile peace pilgrimage around the globe. He was centrally involved in founding Schumacher College in 1991, which has been running a program of successful courses that have helped thousands of organisations and individuals in understanding and finding solutions for the most pressing ecological and social concerns of modern life.
His BBC2 documentary Earth Pilgrim will be broadcast at 8.00pm this Friday and follows Satish as he walks across Dartmoor in all its seasons – sharing his own distinctly Indian perspective. Earth Pilgrim is just part of the work that Satish is currently undertaking to promote his new book ‘Spiritual Compass – The Three Qualities of Life’, published by Green Books of Totnes.
In tribute to the work of Schumacher College and his connection to Totnes and the regional community, Satish will be talking at two local book signings in February. The first at Totnes Bookshop at 7pm on Tuesday 12 February, the second at a lunchtime signing at Dartington Cider Press Centre on 18 February. Tickets are free and available in advance from each venue.
Press are welcome to both events, where they can talk to Satish about his extraordinary life walking the globe. For anyone interesting in the exciting new range of sustainability courses currently running at Schumacher College please visit www.schumachercollege.org.uk
