How to use the forum

Everyone and anyone is welcome to join the forum. You do not have to be a member of staff, regular visitor or even know much about us. We only request that you use the forum to discuss issues important to you with respect for your fellow forum community members.

We hope the process of registering is straightforward, however if you are having trouble this document gives the steps you need to register and log-on to the forum.

Open the Dartington forum by going to the following address http://www.dartington.org/forum

From this page you will see the forum folders and can click through and read messages without being logged in.

Should you want to contribute to the discussion you will need to click log in.

If you have already registered, enter your username and password to log in. If you have not yet registered as a forum member you can enter your details here. Note that you will not immediately be able to go directly to the forum and post messages – beforehand you will be asked to verify your membership, this is standard procedure, an email will be sent to the email account you registered with. Clicking on the ‘confirm membership’ link in that email will activate your account.

You should now be able to go to the forum page and log-in.

Some forums are available through the front page e.g., Dartington International Summer School. However, others are folders and contain a number of forum e.g., Dartington – New Ideas.

You can read and reply to a particular topic or write a message on a new topic not yet raised in the forum by clicking on ‘New Topic’

You will see that at the base of any message there are a number of ‘options’. These are fairly self explanatory:

Reply to this message – your message will appear as part of the ‘thread’ of this topic. Similar to the ‘thread’ of a conversation.

Quote this message – includes the original message in your reply text

Reply via a PM – PM stands for Private message. This allows you to send a message to the person posting the original without anyone else seeing it.

Follow this thread – you can ask the forum to email you if the thread is updated so you don’t have to log-in all the time to see responses to your or an other message.

Report this message – should you think the message is inappropriate or offensive then you can report it to the moderator, who will look into it independently.

So, give the forum a go. Post some messages and generally join in. Don’t forget you can always click your back button or use the main forum address if you get lost. And if you need help we are happy to give it. Enjoy the forum!
