Michael Young recounts the lives of Dorothy and Leonard Elmhirst - she the daughter of an American millionaire; he the son of a Yorkshire parson and secretary to Rabindranath Tagore in Bengal before he married Dorothy. He also tells the story of the foundation of The Dartington Hall Trust and its aims and achievements up to 1978.

Michael Young, a Trustee for almost fifty years, was the author of several books. As one of Britain's most brilliant social entrepreneurs, he also launched over thirty enterprises including the Consumer's Association, the Open University, the National Extension College and the Open College of the Arts.
