Dartington College of Arts began life on the Dartington Hall Estate in 1961. Building on Dartington’s legacy of experimentation and innovation in the arts, the College quickly established itself as a university-sector, specialist arts college. It became known internationally for its undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, taught through distinctive practice-led learning methods across contemporary arts practices.
In April 2008 Dartington College of Arts merged with University College Falmouth to create a new institution focusing on the expansion of Falmouth’s expertise in Art, Design and Media and Dartington’s expertise in Choreography, Music, Theatre, Art and Writing. A dynamic community of artists and researchers, staff and students continues on the Dartington Hall estate, in the form of UCF’s Dartington campus until 2010, when it will relocate to Falmouth. The merger paves the way for a new specialist Arts University in Cornwall in 2012, creating a Higher Education institution unique to the South West.
Although a separate institution, the College works closely alongside many of the Trust’s activities, including supporting the Dartington Arts programme and working in partnership with Schumacher College to provide a unique MA in Arts and Ecology.
