dartington international summer school

Is it a festival or is it a school? Professional or amateur? International, regional or local? Is it contemporary or historical; vocal or instrumental? The Dartington International Summer School is all of these and much more.

Here we can only provide a sketch of this world famous meeting ground for musicians and artists, rooted in the utopian estate at Dartington. It is difficult, if not impossible, to describe the comprehensive range of courses and performances that binds together a community of all ages, creeds, abilities, race, and income on equal terms. Literally everyone is welcome to participate, whatever their standard. Courses, workshops and masterclasses are open to anyone to sit in, listen and watch.

With the exception of some advanced, specialist courses, each week of the Summer School is planned to be self-contained so that visitors can book for one week or more with the opportunity to participate in any number of courses.

Participants arrive on Saturday afternoon and courses run from Sunday to Friday. The charges per person per week listed in the booking section of the summer school website include course fees, concert entry, masterclasses, workshops, accommodation and full board (except non-residents and campers; please see booking information for details). There are then at least three concerts in the evening for all to attend. And this is all available for a flat fee per week (dependent on your chosen accommodation).
