The Dartington Hall Trust and Dartington College of Arts are pleased to announce an exciting feasibility study to explore the opportunity for the first rural land arts park in the UK.

The scoping study, funded by Government Office for the South West, Higher Education Funding Council for England, Devon County Council and South Hams District Council will investigate the need, and possible solutions, to supporting creative talent develop their ideas into sustainable businesses. If successful this study could define a flagship project that would provide a seamless transition from education to creative enterprise.

This study, costing £220k, will start in October and run for 6 months until April 2006. If a favourable conclusion is reached this will then form the basis for a more significant proposal to create and fund this £40m concept.

Vaughan Lindsay, Chief Executive of Dartington Hall Trust, commented “This is a hugely exciting opportunity to re-look at how creative talent, which is so rich in the South West, can be supported to develop sustainable businesses. This idea mirrors many of the original intents of the Elmhirsts who developed Dartington Hall Trust as an experiment in rural and cultural regeneration”.

Andrew Brewerton, Principal of Dartington College of Arts, commented, “This is a wonderful joint initiative between the College and the Trust building on our expertise in support for creative practitioners and furthering a modern interpretation of one Dartington”.
