As Schumacher College's contribution to helping the Southwest towards a more sustainable energy future, we are reviving our Southwest Scholarship scheme for the Life After Oil course, which takes places from 12 to 24, November, 2006.
A limited number of scholarships covering 90% of course fees will be available to people living in the Southwest (Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Avon) who can demonstrate that they will be able to use what they learn on the course for the benefit of their wider community. Applicants should send a regular College course application form along with a statement of how the course will help them in the work they do and two recommendation letters. Deadline for applications: October 25. A 20% reduction on course fees is also available for local people who are interested in the issues but do not feel they would qualify for the scholarship scheme.
Totnes is currently beginning an exciting community process of exploring how it can learn to live without oil in the coming years. This process was initiated by Rob Hopkins who will contribute to the course – further information available on www.transitiontowns.org/Totnes/. Schumacher College wishes to encourage people involved in this process or interested in starting a similar one in their own community to attend this course, which will give them a flying start in understanding the issues and how to communicate them to others.

This unique two-week course brings together leading thinkers in the field to address Peak Oil issues from a variety of perspectives and backgrounds.
