Dartington confirms that education is still our priority

Dartington is to continue to offer educational opportunities for young creative people – providing the space, contacts and resources for students from all over the South West and beyond to carry out residencies, perform site-specific work and collaborate with visiting artists.

While Dartington will no longer be home to Dartington College of Arts – the charity will continue to work closely with higher and further education institutions and schools to offer students access to its unique resources and inspirational setting.

Chief Executive Vaughan Lindsay said, “While we will all be very sad to see the College of Arts leave the estate, education will remain fundamental to what we do at Dartington – in the arts and also though our work in social justice and sustainability.”

At present Dartington champions a range of well-established and blossoming education initiatives in the arts. These include South West Music School and South West Sound, two projects designed to help young musicians from the region learn creative and practical skills, while giving them the rare opportunity to showcase their talents in the UK music industry.

Dartington International Summer School offers 5 weeks of innovative courses and concerts for musicians of all ages and abilities, supported by a wealth of famous faces from around the world.

Schumacher College is an important part of Dartington’s educational prowess. It currently offers an MSc degree course in Holistic Science and is developing an MSc in Sustainable Design. Schumacher College is also working towards its own certificate in education, along with running successful and intensive short courses on climate change and sustainability – designed for individuals and business.

The estate also provides a wide variety of opportunities for researchers and PhD students, along with the perfect setting for artist’s residencies, workshops, business courses and seminars.

Vaughan Lindsay went onto say “Dartington is looking forward to a future, where artists and students from all over the UK can tap into the Dartington magic and take that inspiration back out into the world.”
