Proposed Development Sawmills Field & Webbers Yard Regeneration

Land owned by The Dartington Hall Trust at Sawmills Field and Webbers Yard in Dartington village has been allocated for mixed use (residential and employment) development by South Hams District Council. This is as part of the Council’s strategic local development plan, called the Local Development Framework, which was agreed in February 2011.
The Dartington Hall Trust is collaborating with the local community on plans for the proposed development, following a new process outlined by the Council. Taking part in the collaborative planning process will help influence the infrastructure, facilities, look and character of the developments.

The process involves workshops in five steps
Workshop 1 – Gathering background information – October 2011
The first workshops were held in Dartington Village Hall to gather information from the community about housing, transport and access needs and to identify community facilities that the village currently lacks. Employment opportunities on Webbers Way and the landscape character of the village were also discussed.
Workshop 2 – Setting of objectives and visioning
8th February 2012, 6.30pm Dartington Primary School
The purpose of the next workshop is to develop a set of objectives and conceptual visions for the sites that respond positively to the issues, constraints and opportunities identified at the first community workshops.
Workshop 3 – Master planning together – early spring 2012 (date tbc)
The purpose of this workshop is to work with the developers and their designers to assess and evaluate the quality of layout and design options for both sites. This will include the proposed employment area and the layout of the streets, houses, gardens and public open spaces within the proposed areas.
Workshop 4 – Planning Application review – spring 2012 (date tbc)
The purpose of this workshop is for the community to review and comment on the masterplan and architectural designs before a planning application is submitted, so that further design refinements can be made.
Workshop 5 – After Planning – timing tbc
Following submission of the application, interested parties from the community will be asked to consider the long term future and management of the development and community facilities provided.
Each of the above workshops will be public events run over two or three sessions in a venue in the village, to ensure that all local people have a chance to feed into the consultation. The workshops will be advertised in local press, in the village and via letterbox leaflet drops. Please do help to spread the word by telling your neighbours about the events if you can.

The inaugural Forum meeting for proposed development at Sawmills Field & Webbers Yard Regeneration took place on the 17th September 2011 at Warren House on the Dartington Hall Estate. This meeting was represented by members from the Dartington Hall Trust Property Team, The Dartington Hall Trust Community Outreach Officer, South Hams District Council Forward Planning Team, Dartington Parish Council and three members of the community who had signed up for the Forum at the prior Community Conversation.
On Saturday 29th October and Wednesday 2nd November 2011, Public Meetings were held in Dartington Village Hall to develop a shared understanding of the area, the sites and the way that we will work together to contribute to the master plan. This was the first of a series of community events about this proposed development.
