Shops at Dartington

(formerly the Cider Press Centre)

In 1928 Rex Gardner undertook alterations and refurbishments to make the house habitable and the adjacent barns fit for producing cider from the nearby apple orchards. Apple juice was also produced here in the 1930s, the first in England.

Rex Gardner was also responsible for the design of the ‘Retail Shop’, while Shinners Bridge House became a tea shop, the two together paving the way for the future the Shops at Dartington.

The Shops at Dartington are situated off the A384 at Shinners Bridge, Dartington.

Listed under the original name of ‘Shinners Bridge House’ the central property is Grade II listed (click here to find out more about what listing means).

The site is home to a retail centre and is open to the public Monday to Saturday 9.30 am to 5.30 pm between Christmas and Easter, and also between 11 am and 5 pm on Sundays between Easter and Christmas.
