Research in Practice for Adults

Last week at the Directors Policy Forum research in practice for adults launched their latest publication, the Dartington review on the future of adult social care. This review, produced at the request of the Partnership Board, offers an authoritative and evidence-based assessment of the development of adult social care between now and 2020. It draws on existing evidence and considers likely future scenarios, assessing both the current position and prospects for change. The review is in four parts, an overview report and three supplementary evidence reviews.

  • Overview Report Dartington review on the future of adult social care Richard Humphries, Senior Fellow for Social Care, King’s Fund
  • Evidence review 1 What can England learn from the experiences of other countries? Caroline Glendinning, Professor of Social Policy, SPRU (York)
  • Evidence review 2 The future adult social care workforce Jennifer Bernard and Daphne Statham
  • Evidence review 3 Personalisation, sustainability and adult social care: strengthening resilient communities Jon Rae, Head of Vocations and Enterprise, Schumacher College (Dartington)

Welcoming the review Bernard Walker, Wigan’s Executive Director Health and Wellbeing and Chair, ripfa Partnership Board that commissioned the review said:

‘This is a time of unease and uncertainty for anyone working in adult social care. We need to hold our nerve as a collective and provide leadership and to that end we need to enter difficult debates with confidence about what works. Being a partner of research in practice for adults provides us with tools and resources to enable us to do this. This timely review provides evidence and reflection that I’d consider to be essential reading for anyone charged with providing strategic leadership or direction at this time’.

Each section of the report is freely available to download from the ripfa website http://www.ripfa.org.uk/publications/dartington-review. Hard copies have been distributed to our Partner agencies; limited numbers are available to non-Partners.
