Research In Practice for Adults What's New: March 2009
Hello all with another update from research in practice for adults. I am pleased to announce a few new and important developments in our work for the last two months.
Evidence Base for Integrated Care
Yes, it is finally here, running on our website. The Evidence Base for Integrated Care was developed in partnership with the Integrated Care Network. It provides key messages for practice in the area of integrated care, stepping on the best available and carefully selected evidence. You can find summaries of this evidence on the Evidence Base.
Please, follow this link for access to the Evidence Base.
Change projects
The last, pilot stage of our first change project Safety Matters ended with a meeting of the Pilot Group to discuss and feedback the final changes in the draft Safety Matters documents. The meeting took place in Dartington on 11th and 12th February 2009.
The final publication of the Safety Matters outcomes documents is expected in October 2009.

New Branding

Councillors and Trustees’ Seminar in Birmingham
research in practice for adults – together with its ‘sister’ organisation Research in Practice – ran their annual seminar for councillors and trustees from the partner local authorities on 5th and 6th of February 2009 in Birmingham. The overarching theme of the seminar was Personalisation in Practice and we had contributions from Caroline Tomlinson (Consumer Support Director, In Control), John Dixon (Executive Director of Adults and Children, West Sussex and President of The Association of Directors of Adult Social Services), Parvenah Rabiee (Social Policy Research Unit, University of York), Pam Smith and Clair Pyper (Directors of services in Warrington and Slough) among many others.
Partner Network
Welcome to Wakefield who are our newest partners having joined our network last month.
Forthcoming Events
Involve Us – Sheffield 19th March 2009
Involve Us is a service user-lead event. Lyn Crooks, Robyn Steward, Richard Blake and Alan Townsend will share their experience as service users, and their stories of participation in developing services. In addition, we will discuss the different and sometimes conflicting political agendas that organisations have in mind when involving service users; this discussion will be aided by a research in practice for adults delivered presentation.
In the afternoon, participants will work in small groups, planning how they can improve the involvement of service users and carers in their own agencies. The idea is for people to leave the event with practical things to apply in their organisations. The groups will use the resource of our four speakers as consultants.
Skills for Evidence Informed Practice – Dartington 2nd April 2009 and Cambridge 30th April 2009
This workshop will provide an introduction to evidence-informed practice (EiP) and practical guidance on how to find relevant research, how to assess the quality of evidence, how to identify key messages from research, and how to use evidence to influence practice. We will be drawing on real examples throughout the day, so we invite the participants to come to the workshop with a specific issue or area of practice in mind where they would like specific help in using research evidence.
Users as Researchers – Sheffield 28th April 2009
There is increasing interest in those who use services being involved in carrying out research relating to that support. This workshop will explore some of the practical implications of users as researchers and will discuss the impact that user researchers have. The speakers and the programme for this event are in a process of confirmation. The event capacity is 40 participants.
In Depth Day
On 25th February 2009 research in practice for adults – together with Research in Practice – hosted an In Depth day for Dartington employees who wanted to learn more about evidence informed practice and about the social justice strand of Dartington work in general. Twelve Dartington employees with various occupations – ranging from public relations and finance to beverage management – spent half a day with us learning about the nature of our work.
All the Best from the ripfa team!
Our next what’s new update will be out in early May 2009.
