Social Justice at Dartington
Throughout Dartington’s history the search for what was once called ‘an abundant life’ has been at the heart of our work. Taking many and differing forms as Dartington and wider society evolved and changed, today our commitment to a socially just world is led by Britain’s principal evidence-informed practice agencies, Research in Practice (RiP) and their sister organisation, Research in Practice for Adults (RiPfA).
Both are committed to helping good quality, highly relevant research evidence to inform planning and delivery of services to children, families and adults who find themselves in vulnerable situations. Such clear thinking helps to positively shape a society where young and old are entitled to the same life chances and opportunities as all other citizens. Each is firmly focused on delivering equality and human rights to all those with particular needs. The combined efforts of RiP and RiPfA are ensuring that individuals and groups throughout England and Wales are receiving fair treatment and a just share of the benefits of our society.

Supporting evidence informed practice with children and families. Five new research reviews are now waiting to be read in the Research in Practice EvidenceBank. During 2009 we are supporting Hope and Homes for Children’s work in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The latest Growing Digital blog entry is up, covering some top tips for day to day use of evidence-informed practice. Two new stories showcasing different initiatives for implementing evidence-informed practice have been published on the website.

Abundant Life Project
Based on the Elmhirst philosophy ‘that an abundant life is a happy life’, Dartington is exploring what it would offer to our older citizens, providing an exciting chance to experiment with new retirement models
Retirement Village, Retirement Community, Retirement Home, Retirement Apartment – even Retirement Living – all terms used with increasing frequency in the papers, on the radio, the web and television. And not one of them with a standard meaning – leading to lots of confusion just when what we all need is greater clarity!
