Music courses for all ages and abilities, 21 July - 25 August 2012
Songwriting with Ray Davies and Marion Wells
We have been innundated with enquiries and also are working on final payments over this weekend, so applications for this course have been extended to Monday 28 May.
Week 5, 18 – 25 August 2012
Legendary songwriter Ray Davies, of the Kinks, and poet and playwright Marion Wells have worked together for many years teaching a songwriting course at the Arvon Foundation. This course is a practical course for songwriters committed to producing quality popular music. Participants will write at least one song a day, either on their own or in collaboration with fellow students. Participants should preferably be able to accompany themselves on an instrument although applications will be considered from those who do not.
The course is for a maximum of 16 students and will run all day and involve a mix of 1:1 tuition and group work. There will also be opportunities for informal sharing of work during the week and a student performance at the end of the week.
This courses is by application and is only open to students who have not previously attended a course run by Ray and Marion. We would like to have a mixed group for this course and welcome applications from any musical background.
To apply please complete our standard booking form and submit along with a recording of 2 songs you have written and a covering letter outlining your previous musical experience and explaining why you wish to participate in the course, by 23 May. No payment will be taken until your place on the course has been confirmed.

New 30 for 30s scheme.
We’re very pleased to announce that we’re launching a new initiative for professional, mid-career musicians. Dartington International Summer School’s 30 for 30s scheme offers a 30% discount on the cost of an all-inclusive residential week at Foxhole.
To be considered, you’ll be a conservatoire graduate, and a gigging, hard-working professional performer aged between 30 and …40 who needs a break.
We want to give performers the chance to re-engage with playing music for music’s sake, work intensively on their chosen repertoire or inject an invigorating dose of musical creativity into their working lives away from the hot house environment of the gig circuit. Come and spend a week to relax, unwind, rejuvenate and rediscover.
We have ten discounted places available. If you wish to be considered for this fantastic scheme, please forward a CV outlining your academic and professional experience, plus a brief covering note outlining what you’d get out of your time with us to Emily Hoare, Creative Producer on Emily.hoare@dartington.org.
Submissions from small ensembles are particularly encouraged.
Emily can be contacted for an informal chat on 01803 847096
