TQ Special Offer for Dartington International Summer School

Monday 21 June

Dartington’s International Summer School has announced the programme of music and dance courses for this year’s action-packed five-week festival – and is again providing its special offer to local residents in the South Hams, Teignbridge and Torbay.

The famous Summer School, is a cornerstone of The Dartington Hall Trust’s charitable activities and this year takes place between 24th July and 28th August. It specialises in providing music-making opportunities for the whole community, from amateur musicians to seasoned professionals. The range of courses is huge, from Baroque music and opera to salsa, jive dance and gospel choir.

Each year an exclusive deal is offered to residents living in the TQ postcode region. The opportunity to book for a single course, something only available to TQ residents means that local people can save hundreds of pounds. Many classes are suitable for total beginners or those with limited experience – so it’s never too late to try your hand at something new!

David Francis, Dartington’s Director of Arts, says: “Since the TQ deal was launched six years ago, more and more local people have been getting involved in our courses each summer. It’s lovely to see so many new and familiar faces from the immediate surroundings taking advantage of this offer and taking part in the internationally renowned Summer School”.

In keeping with the Trust’s founding principle of life-long learning, the Summer School gives amateur musicians, music students and professional artists alike the opportunity to sample a diverse selection of musical experiences, from singing in a choir, playing in an orchestra, trying a new instrument or taking part in a masterclass with world-renowned musicians. Some of the world’s most highly regarded musicians both past and present have studied or taught at the Summer School, including Ravi Shankar, Elvis Costello, Sir Charles Mackerras, Simon Rattle, Dame Emma Kirkby and Sir Harrison Birtwistle.

Courses available as part of this special deal include the all comers Choir, De-mystifying Indian Music, Jive Dance, Gamelan and individual instrumental classes such as Guitar, Baroque Oboe, Violin and Saxophone plus many more.

Dartington International Summer School kicks off on Saturday 24th July – due to the popularity of the courses on offer, limited places are filling up and any one interested is strongly advised to book their place early to avoid disappointment.
