“We’ve tried getting wrecked, we’ve tried hard capitalism, we’ve tried social media, and they’re not making us happy” – Barn the Spoon
A respected leader in the craft, Barn teaches both in the UK and internationally, and he is widely credited with the resurgence in spoon carving over the last decade. We’re delighted to welcome Barn to the Dartington estate for this talk, where he’ll discuss his craft, his philosophies, and the journey that bought him here.
Barn has loved woodwork since he was a child, and spent his teens turning bowls, making wooden jewellery and creating abstract sculpture. He ended up doing a woodland-based chair making apprenticeship, followed by three years travelling around the country, living in the woods and making and peddling hand-carved wooden spoons on the streets of Britain’s towns and cities. In 2012, Barn opened his notorious Spoon Shop in Hackney, East-London.
In addition to this talk, Barn is delivering a hands-on course on the 26 and 27 September.
