About this event

About the Play
Laurie Lee’s Cider With Rosie is an evocative coming-of-age story. It is also a play about childhood, change and the countryside.

Set in an idyllic Cotswold village immediately after the First World War, we meet an eccentric family, tyrannical teachers and aspiring entertainers. They live in a landscape of traditions and memories. Laurie re-imagines the glorious outings, frozen white winters and hot hazy summers of his childhood. He also recalls that first cider-fuelled encounter…
Cider With Rosie is a contemporary classic. Adapted for the stage, this play captures Laurie Lee’s life, times and dreams.

Visiting Dartington Hall

At our 1,200 acre estate, based in South Devon, there’s plenty to explore – from the natural beauty of the grounds, to our visitor attractions and year-round events programme. You can also make a stay of it with our historic hotel or campsite, and enjoy award-winning food and drink in our cafes and restaurants.

We are a charity, and over the past few years we have begun to revitalise our vision, purpose and impact as an experimental project. As a member, you’ll feel much more a part of our work, helping us to create a Dartington that is fit for the 21st century and is a model and test-bed for a sustainable society.
