About this event
Dvorak’s rarely heard gothic melodramatic oratorio has the atmosphere enriched by the magic of puppetry! Come and be thrilled by the Dartington Community Choir and Dartington Sinfonietta with top class soloists – and PuppetCraft!
With performances just one week after Halloween, come and be captivated by the ghostly tale of a bride lured to her wedding by her suitor who returns from a long voyage seeking fame and fortune! But he is not quite the man to whom she bade farewell…
In the first concert of Dartington Community Choir’s 40th Anniversary season, we are delighted to be teaming up with Devon-based PuppetCraft, director John Roberts, a long-established puppetry company known internationally. His puppets will add mystique and magic to this amazing work in a new English translation by Mollie Kaye and Simon Capet – DCC’s Music Director – who will conduct these two performances.
The Choir and the Dartington Sinfonietta – leader Mary Eade – will be joined by our soloists Catherine Hamilton (soprano) as the Bride, David Webb (tenor) as the Spectre, and Freddie Long (baritone) as the Narrator. All three will be familiar to our audiences, though this time in a very different guise.
We gratefully acknowledge the generous support from the Arts Council of Great Britain, The Dvorak Society and the Wakefield Trust.
Due its nature, our suggestion is that this work is not suitable for young children.
