About this event

Justly considered one of the greatest film comedies of all time, Duck Soup is filled to bursting with iconic gags from the Marx Brothers

We’re delighted that this screening will be introduced by a comedian from the local comedy circuit, Dartmoor’s very own stand-up, Rev. Maggy Whitehouse.

From probably the most iconic comedic team in history, this anti-war, anti-nationalist satire (made soon after Hitler seized power in Germany) is an incredible showcase of their craft, meticulously honed on the vaudeville circuit. Ostensibly about Rufus T. Firefly (Groucho Marx) waging war with a neighbouring country over a trifling matter, the film’s unruly spirit tramples over any attempt at narrative or logic, zig-zagging in a thousand preposterous directions all of which serve to make you laugh very hard.
