About this course

A 10-week online course of live webinars each week exploring ecological farming approaches and practices. A 2-hour lecture each Monday will be broadcast live online and made available to all participants as a recording after the event.

Participants will begin this module by exploring and identifying some defined measures of ‘sustainability’ and the concept of ‘regenerative’ agriculture. This will be followed by an in-depth study of sustainable and regenerative food production systems and methods and their underlying principles. We will develop an understanding of how the adoption of certain methods and systems can constitute a particular philosophical and/or economic approach.

Comparisons will be made between these approaches and conventional approaches using defined measures and principles. We will also explore opportunities for, and barriers to mainstream adoption of these approaches and be introduced to some of the innovative business strategies which have supported the rise in small farms in the UK in recent years.
