About this event

“For me, garden design isn’t just about plants, it is about emotion, atmosphere, a sense of contemplation. It goes deeper than what you see.”

Award-winning filmmaker Thomas Piper’s new documentary takes viewers inside the exquisite work of influential garden designer Piet Oudolf, from his abstract sketch designs, to his theories on beauty, to the ecological implications of his ideas. Beautifully shot, Piper depicts intimate conversations with Piet through all four seasons in his own gardens at Hummelo, and at his signature public works across the globe; whilst also focusing on his latest project at Hauser & Wirth Somerset, a garden he considers his best work yet.

Visiting Dartington Hall

At our 1,200 acre estate, based in South Devon, there’s plenty to explore – from the natural beauty of the grounds, to our visitor attractions and year-round events programme. About us

Dartington is an old place with a new story.

The Dartington Experiment began in 1925 and was based on the idea that humans are many-sided – and how we need environments that encourage our whole being to flourish, in connection with nature and each other.

This idea is as true today is it ever was.
