About this event

Presented by Totnes Early Music Society, in partnership with Dartington Arts.

Outstanding viol player Charles Medlam and his daughter Hannah, a soprano, are joined by theorbo player Alex McCartney for a programme of 17th century songs and instrumental music from London, Paris and Rome. Featuring vocal works by William Lawes, Purcell, Michel Lambert and Marc-Antoine Charpentier, and a cantata in French written during Handel’s sojourn in Rome. Virtuoso bass viol pieces from France’s foremost “Maître de viole” are complemented by some wonderfully rich theorbo pieces by Robert de Visée, Louis XIV’s favourite lutenist.
