About this event
Dartington’s printmaking workshop presents a fascinating and unusual exhibition of handmade books, conceived and created here at Dartington Hall, and Dartington members are invited to join us for a very special launch event.
This exhibit runs throughout Ways With Words in a beautiful handmade yurt on our Great Lawn. The collection of works are primarily visual narratives, some with interrelated text which parallels with the illustrative elements of the books. The exhibition will showcase the works of beginner and established printmakers, exhibiting side by side – demonstrating the principles of collaborative and lifelong learning.
This invitation-only exhibition launch gives Dartington members the chance to physically handle and explore the books – something not usually allowed during an exhibition of this kind. This participatory component of the exhibit will emphasise the haptic value of the books, and the important role touch and intimacy play in our relationship to both books and the visual word.
Print has long been one of the most accessible and democratic forms of art and craft, and Dartington Print Workshop maintains the essence and integrity of those values in its very constitution. Michael Honnor, who founded the workshop almost 45 years ago, will be on hand alongside his fellow printmakers to say a few words and introduce the exhibition, as will Dartington’s visitor experience director Urszula Kossakowska and CEO Rhodri Samuel.
You will be welcomed with a drink and be given a 70 page catalogue about the exhibition and the makers involved to take home.
We will also be holding an optional ‘lucky dip’ for handmade prints – and all funds raised from this and the event as a whole will go directly back to Dartington Print Workshop, our wonderful, non-commercial, educational institution at the heart of Dartington.
