After the announcement from the Government of a national lockdown in England Dartington Trust will now hold postgraduate teaching online until at least mid-February on degree courses at our two faculties, Schumacher College and Dartington Arts School. Please do not travel to Dartington for the start of term and disregard our communication sent yesterday.

Unfortunately, face-to-face teaching is no longer possible until mid-February at the very earliest. The latest information from the Government on what the lockdown means for higher education in England is available via this link. All student facilities – libraries, studios, services, and residence halls – are closed until we are formally permitted to take returning students in mid-February (or later) and students should not arrive early.

Over the two prior lockdowns in 2020, our learning team have developed a really fantastic approach to delivering meaningful, transformational online learning, and we are speaking with all members of faculty today to ensure our student learning experience is as rich and rewarding as possible. While this is not news that we want to give our learning community, we are working alongside our colleagues across the higher education sector during this exponential increase in coronavirus cases to develop creative solutions to continue to offer an exceptional experience for all of our students.

New students joining us this month, our online Welcome Week will go ahead as planned next week, starting at 11:30am on Tuesday 12 January. This will be a great opportunity for you to discuss with your programme lead and the wider learning community how we can co-create a really productive time of study and collaboration together over the coming weeks. We will be in touch shortly to confirm the exact arrangements for the start of your course.

Students staying in the UK on a Student Visa, please contact the Postgrad office as soon as possible, letting us know the new address you will be staying at. If you decide not to travel, please let Postgrad office know, so that they can update the Home Office with your changed arrival dates. If you are in need of emergency housing, please contact studentaccommodation@dartington.org

We will continue to follow evolving UK guidance to determine when we will be able to invite students back into residence.
