Volunteer Opportunity: Visitor Centre Assistant

About this opportunity

The Visitor Centre is at the heart of the Dartington estate. It provides information on the history of estate as well as all the current activities, events, festivals, courses and attractions such as the gardens, shops, restaurant and cinema that people can enjoy when visiting Dartington. As a volunteer in the Visitor Centre, you will work alongside staff to provide a warm welcome for all visitors and assist with answering enquiries. You’ll also help us to promote the new Heritage Lottery funded Deer Park project at Dartington.

We’re looking for volunteers that enjoy meeting people and engaging with members of the public of all ages and who have a good understanding of customer care and are enthusiastic about Dartington as a place to visit.

Time: A minimum of one shift (2.5 hours), ideally on a regular day each week. Shifts are available 7 days a week and the volunteer can specify their day preference and whether they can do a morning shift (10am-12:30) or afternoon shift (12:30-15:00).

Tasks include:

  1. Meet and greet visitors into the Visitor Centre and be able to respond to general enquiries about Dartington.
  2. Engage with visitors and assist them in making the most of their visit including signposting to what is on that day.
  3. Be able to promote the Dartington Deer Park as a place to visit for all ages
  4. Assist in checking in/ checking out the Deer Park activity backpacks for children. Restock backpacks with materials as and when needed.
  5. Update displays and literature in the Visitor Centre.
  6. Help to gather visitor feedback in a non-survey way e.g. encouraging people to write on the Deer Park tree or in the Visitor Centre Comments Book.
