About the Chefs

Matteo Lamaro

Matteo 2Matteo grew up in the small coastal town of Ancona where he spent summers collecting mussels from the rocks and Sunday mornings watching Nonna making fresh gnocchi and pasta. His passion for fresh good food never left him – even when he left Italy – but it is only recently he has had the opportunity to express this fully – after a particularly rainy Christmas market in Totnes, a chance meeting of minds sharing a passion for good things in life (Italian food, coffee, surf and art) led to the establishment of The Curator Café.
Jim Fisher

Jim FisherFormer MasterChef semi-finalist Jim started his cooking career at Exeter’s White Hart Hotel and has since cooked alongside Rick Stein, Alistair Little and Tony Tobin. After 15 years running a successful cookery school in France, he has now returned to his Devonian roots and runs Exeter Cookery School with his wife Lucy. Based in a listed 1830s warehouse on Exeter’s historic quayside, the dynamic couple offer a comprehensive range of one day, half day and evening cookery courses and corporate events.
Sue Stoneman

Sue StonemanFresh from her triumph in the 2016 South West Home Cook of the Year competition, Sue will be recreating her winning dish for us in all its delicious glory. Sue has many cooking accolades to her name, including reaching the final of the Devon Life Home Cook of the Year competition in 2014 and coming third overall – in the process becoming known as the most enthusiastic home cook in the county! She has since appeared as a contestant on The Box – hosted by James Martin – and was crowned Champion Baker at the Exeter Food Festival in 2015. Sue can also be found rustling up some tasty treats at her BigFire cooking demonstrations.
Peter Alcroft

Peter AlcroftA talented local chef and chocolatier, Peter has worked in amazing hotels and restaurants throughout the world with many inspiring chefs. Being a chocolatier requires skill, patience, passion and creativity and Peter enjoys experimenting with exciting new flavour combinations as well as creating old favourites.
Mal Harradine

Mal HarradineMal discovered his love of cooking at an early age when his mum started teaching him basic culinary skills at home on their farm in Hertfordshire. He has been involved in the homeware industry for 30 years – not only on the selling side but also in design and manufacturing, giving him valuable insights into the thought processes manufacturers go through when making a piece of cookware or kitchen equipment, as well as how it works and why an everyday cook would want to buy it. Mal has also been seen on QVC TV Home Shopping Channel and more recently Ideal World TV Channel, introducing a wide range of the latest innovative kitchen products.
