White Hart Pub & Restaurant
The White Hart offers a warm and inviting atmosphere, serving locally sourced dishes in the heart of the Dartington Estate. Nestled next to the impressive Medieval Great Hall and Grade II* Listed Gardens in a peaceful countryside setting, the restaurant offers a charming dining hall and a cosy pub environment, ideal for a relaxed meal or special occasion.
Dan Foster, the new tenant and licensee describes his cuisine as ranging from delicate French-inspired preparations to bold English flavours, with each offering on the menu reflecting his commitment to culinary craft and sustainable sourcing.
A particular highlight is the White Hart's popular Sunday Roasts, served every Sunday from noon. With a fantastic range of locally sourced meats, vegetables, and sides, along with a relaxing atmosphere and a drinks selection, The White Hart is the perfect place to unwind on a Sunday afternoon. To avoid disappointment, table bookings are recommended.
Steeped in royal medieval history, The White Hart’s Feasting Hall is one of the oldest buildings on the Dartington Estate. Originally built between 1388-1400 by John Holand, half-brother of King Richard II, the hall still features fascinating historic elements. Look for the King’s “white hart” crest in the ceiling and explore the old oven ‘hood’ and ‘spit boy’ recesses. The quirky ‘stairs to nowhere’ remain a mystery to this day.
Dogs are welcome, walkers with muddy boots are also welcome and the restaurant serves teas and coffees.
