Community Engagement

We are mindful of the Estate’s prominence in Dartington and nearby Totnes over the centuries, as a very large physical location. Its amenities and natural beauty on a large scale make it a magnet for the local community, who are able to enjoy year-round all we have to offer.

The Trust endeavours to make the estate as accessible as possible to its local friends and neighbours. The parkland, which is free for all to roam, is maintained with consideration for the safety of all our visitors, in step with our ongoing conservation and ecological work.

Memberships are available at concessionary rates for those living in TQ postcodes and, wherever possible, similar discounts for our neighbours apply to charges for events and activities.

Our programme of culture and live music champions and supports local artists and performers. We are proud to present these to audiences that often come from far further afield, particularly at weekends.

We place huge value on our relationships with key local stakeholders. There is a rolling programme of engagement with our Member of Parliament and local government in Totnes, South Hams and at county level. The Trust is enormously grateful for the support and partnership offered by local authorities, as well as the connectivity they provide with the business community and tenants.

Local schools, societies and children’s clubs are always welcome to visit in groups. Out of term time, they will find a variety of free holiday activities on the estate; in term time, schools nearby are able to park and drop off or pick up safely using the Cider Press Centre car park.

Much of our community engagement would not be possible without the generous time commitment of our many volunteers, the vast majority of whom are from the immediate locality. They are a vital link to beyond the Estate and we are truly thankful for their contribution.
