BWS - Beatrice Straight Papers
A collection of family letters of the actress Beatrice Straight to her mother, Dorothy Elmhirst, with telegrams, press cuttings, playbills, and photographs.
Commercial papers of Dartington Hall Ltd and its subsidiaries including Dartington Woodlands Ltd; Dartington Farms Ltd; Dartington Orchards Ltd; the poultry, grounds and gardens, and vegetables departments; Sawmill and Textiles Departments; and Shinners Bridge retail shop and craft studio, Staverton Builders Ltd (and subsidiaries) and Churston Development Company Ltd.
Records of the Dartington Hall Cattle Breeding Centre (DHCBC). The centre was established and financed by Leonard Elmhirst and George Hayter-Hames and licensed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. It provided an artificial insemination service for cattle in certain areas of Devon and Cornwall.
CEMA - Council for the Encouragement of Music and the Art
This small collection of early records of the Council for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts (CEMA) was donated to The Dartington Hall Trust Archive by Nan Plummer in 2001. The records were accumulated by Sybil Eaton between about 1939 and 1944.
DS - Doreen Senior Folk Music Archive
Doreen Senior served from 1949 as County Music Organiser in Devon. As such she was involved with music work at Dartington Hall and was also associated with the Devon Centre for Further Education at Dartington. This folk music archive is composed of folk music and lyric transcriptions, 5 sound recordings of folk music, correspondence, and notes for books.
DWE - Papers of Dorothy Elmhirst
The papers of Dorothy Whitney Elmhirst (1887-1968) were accumulated over the course of a long and busy life. Subjects and correspondents represented in the collection reflect the very broad range of social and professional contacts maintained by Dorothy Elmhirst.
LKE - Papers of Leonard Elmhirst
Leonard's papers record his involvement as a founding trustee at Dartington Hall, and also his work as an agricultural economist interested in rural regeneration in India and Britain. He held posts with a variety of research institutes, and chaired many enquiries into aspects of rural life and industry in Britain.
Correspondence, manuscripts, poetry and dramatic plays by Maurice Browne, the English actor and producerfounder of the 'Little Theatre' movement in America. , Browne returned to England in 1927 where he was to become a friend and business partner of Dorothy and Leonard Elmhirst.
MC - Michael Chekhov Theatre Studio Deirdre Hurst du Prey Archive
Records include shorthand notes made by du Prey, of Chekhov's acting lessons dating from 1935 to 1942. These were later typed and comprise about 500 drama lessons. There are also rehearsal notes of Chekhov's discussions with the Chekhov Theatre Players, the Studio's performance group in America.
This Series contains records relating to the activities of the Milk Marketing Board (MMB. It includes National Milk Records (NMR), a scheme of milk recording in a campaign for increased milk production; butter-fat testing, including a meeting between representatives of the NMR and representatives of the Scottish Milk Records Association; and the establishment of a MMB Grass Drying Centre at Dartington.
Collection of the personal papers of Paula Morel. The papers were accumulated through her various roles as model, dancer, actress, librarian, wardrobe mistress for Dartington College of Arts and prime mover in amateur dramatics on the estate.

This series encompasses all of the photographic material held in the archive relating to the Trust as a whole, or has not been identified as being specifically related to any one department. It is an eclectic range of material spanning the entire history of the Trust.
