WATCH: AWE Making A Difference

Accelerating Women’s Enterprise (AWE) is a new collaborative project to help women living in various regions either side of the English Channel to increase their personal skills and develop their business ideas and knowledge.

We will support women through new training workshops, face to face advice, mentoring and online learning, all developed specifically for women.

Programme goals

The project as a whole aims to:

Create 35 hours of new learning content

Train 700 female entrepreneurs

Recruit and train over 160 mentors

Help 134 women to start new businesses

Carry out new research into women’s enterprise

Within this, SSE Dartington aims to:

Work with 124 women social entrepreneurs

Engage 40 mentors

Help set up 30 new jobs through the social enterprises established

AWE Making a Difference

Dream it. Plan it. Do it.

The programme results, learning content, research, mentor-bank and resources will all be brought together in a Starter Kit, which will be freely available to any stakeholder or organisation seeking to improve its services to female entrepreneurs.

AWE support is being delivered by a consortium of partners in the UK and France. Please contact the organisation in your area directly to register your interest and find out more about the training and support services on offer and where they will be delivered.

AWE is supported by the Interreg France (Channel) England Programme, which is contributing €2,641,184.73 of European Regional Development Funds and aims to address economic and social issues in regions on either side of the Channel.

Through this collaborative, cross-border approach, we seek to improve the quality and effectiveness of support to socially or economically disadvantaged and under-represented groups and to address the gender imbalance in entrepreneurship.

AWE COVID-19 Update

We are monitoring the threat posed by COVID-19 and are responding in terms of the way we organise our programmes. For the time being, we very much continue to welcome enquiries about and applications to both the AWE Making A Difference and Weekend Accelerator Programmes. We will be in touch with all applicants with any updates to the situation.

Residential weekend course, Dartington Hall

21-22 November, 2020

During a two-day free residential course designed for women who have already started some enterprise activity, we delve into some of the complexity of launching and sustaining a thriving enterprise. As well as covering topics including business strategy, social media, legal issues, and financial management, we will also explore the challenges of maintaining a healthy work-life balance, enhancing our self-care and managing our time.

By the end of the weekend, we hope you will have regained your motivation and developed clear plans on how to move forwards. We also hope you will have had fun in a supportive group of women and enhanced your professional and support networks.

Next course date and location to be confirmed

The programme is called AWE Making a Difference: Dream It. Plan It. Do It. and is designed to take you through the process of starting up your own enterprise.

With the aid of supportive tutors, inspiring experts, experienced mentors and each other, we cover the basics of creating a vision, business planning, managing finances, marketing, generating an income, using social media, getting registered, measuring impact, and more.

By the end of the programme, you will have turned your dreams into concrete plans and be ready to launch your new project.

There are limited places on the programmes, and so we will need to make decisions about which applicants are most likely to benefit from being a participant. Therefore, it is really important that you give us as much information as you can about yourself, your enterprise idea, and why you want to do the programme. It is important that you commit to attending all sessions of the training programme.

To apply, please email to request an application form and information sheet.
