The White Hart Pub and Restaurant Reopens on 1 April

Dartington’s White Hart welcomes new tenant and licensee

Dartington Trust is delighted to announce the reopening after a winter break of the White Hart pub and restaurant, now under the excellent stewardship of Dan Foster.

A familiar face to White Hart visitors, Dan was Head Chef from October 2024 until December 2025. He takes executive control of the 14th century premises as an independent tenant and licensee, with exciting plans for the busy months ahead.

As Head Chef, Dan previously developed a high-quality gastropub menu that won many plaudits from local diners and visitors from much further afield. He describes his cuisine as ranging from delicate French-inspired preparations to bold English flavours, with each offering on the menu reflecting his commitment to culinary craft and sustainable sourcing. Thoughtfully made, beautifully balanced and authentically local, Dan promises several standout new dishes in the coming weeks.

Dan Foster said:

“It’s a privilege to have my name above the door of this historic gem among pub-restaurants. I can’t wait to welcome visitors old and new from 1 April and to present one of the very best casual dining experiences in south Devon, underpinned by outstanding local produce. We’ll also have regular live music and themed evenings – something for everyone.”

Robert Fedder, interim CEO of Dartington Trust, said:

“We’re thrilled that Dan is leading the White Hart on the next stage of its storied journey. His valuable knowledge of what customers love about this wonderful medieval pub means he’ll hit the ground running as he stamps his mark on a flagship operation within our beautiful estate.”

The White Hart’s new tenant is the latest piece of the jigsaw in DT’s ‘partner’ model for the 800-acre estate’s hospitality, leisure and retail activities. The Trust now hosts several successful, specialist operators running establishments including the Green Table, the Garden Café and The Space gym, while the recently relaunched Cider Press Centre has curated popular new independent offerings in food and drink, lifestyle, arts and crafts.
