Wellbeing Walks at Dartington Offer Space to Connect and Reconnect

A new programme of wellbeing walks is helping people come together, reconnect with nature and improve their physical and mental wellbeing on the beautiful and historic Dartington Estate in Devon.

Since launching in April 2026, the Wellbeing Walks, based at Space Health and Fitness on the Dartington Estate, have been building a strong sense of community through gentle exercise, fresh air and friendly conversation. Delivered in partnership with The Ramblers, the initiative is designed to support anyone who may be feeling isolated, struggling with confidence, or simply looking for a relaxed and welcoming environment to meet others.

While LED Community Leisure has been running successful wellbeing walks at other centres for a number of years, this is a new initiative for Dartington. The programme builds on the success of those existing schemes, creating another opportunity for local people to improve their wellbeing while forming meaningful social connections.

The response so far has been extremely positive, with participants embracing the opportunity to enjoy accessible, inclusive walks in a supportive group setting. Sessions are free to attend, thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, and are led by trained volunteer walk leaders through The Ramblers Association.

With no expectation of fitness levels or prior experience, the walks are open to people of all ages and abilities. Each session lasts around an hour and follows accessible routes around the estate, taking in Dartington’s stunning woodland, wildlife, and rich heritage.

Starting and finishing at Space Health and Fitness, the walks take place approximately once a month, beginning at 11.15am. The walks last approximately one hour.

More than just a walk, the initiative is about creating a welcoming space where people can slow down, enjoy their surroundings and connect with others. Whether sharing stories, discovering new points of interest, or simply taking time out in nature, participants are encouraged to move at their own pace and leave feeling better than when they arrived.
