A shop bursting with tasty treats and inspiration for a quick supper or a special occasion. We are a member of the Food and Drink Devon organization that promotes and supports Devon based food growers and manufacturers.

We stock a large selection of local ales and ciders, as well as locally made cakes, cheesecakes, pasties and pies.

Tastings are held throughout the year where you can try… chocolate truffles… cheese… cider… or wine, to mention a few.

New Venus Cafe and Take away at the Shops at Dartington

We are delighted to announce that Venus have opened their first inland Café and Take away here at the Shops at Dartington. Venus caters for gluten-free, vegetarian and meat lovers alike with a wide selection of delicious products to either eat in the Café or to take away. The Venus Company has twice won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, they have been described as ‘a rare example of a sustainable café chain’.

The Venus Café

Open Monday – Sunday from 8:30am – 5:00pm. Serving hot and cold food and drink all day. Choices include: full English breakfast, Venus meals, children’s meals, salads, sandwiches, baguettes and, of course, the mandatory cream tea.

The Venus Takeaway

Open Monday – Sunday from 11:00am – 5:00pm. Offers a range of hot and cold snacks including sandwich’s & baguettes, salads, pasties, french fries and fish & meat free dishes. Hot & cold drinks are also available.

Venus Cafe Takeaway will be open on Boxing Day as normal.

Cranks Restaurant

The first Cranks restaurant was set up in Carnaby Street, London, in 1961 and was known as the first truly vegetarian restaurant, different from anything that had come before. Today we are very proud to say that we still have a restaurant flying the flag for Cranks at Shops at Dartington (formerly the Cider Press Centre), which lures in customers looking for something out of the ordinary from all over the UK.

Every meal in this self-service restaurant is cooked from scratch, in our on-site kitchen by Tristan, Gwydion, James and Patricia every day. It’s the only way we can guarantee everything is as fresh as we want it to be. And this small but mind-bogglingly efficient team help create a warm, homely atmosphere too and serve tasty, nutritious food.

All the bread is baked locally with Organic flour, and all the food is sourced locally (and by locally we don’t mean France or anything, we mean in Devon) and if you don’t fancy having your lunch in our informal restaurant or secluded garden, you can always ask to take it away to enjoy it in the comfort of your own home.
