Dartington membership: FAQs

How much does it cost to join the membership scheme?

Joining fees vary depending on the type of membership you wish to take out.

When can I start using my membership?

Once you set up your online account you can start using your membership straight away for any online bookings or bookings via the telephone. Your pack will arrive within 3-5 working days which will include your Membership card(s) which you will need to redeem any discounts at The Shops, The Green Table Café, The Shops Café, The Roundhouse or The White Hart.

Can I purchase a gift membership?

Yes, you can opt to purchase membership as a gift and you will be given this option at the checkout process online. Just choose a membership package to get started.

Where will my gift membership be sent?

You can indicate the name and address of the membership that you would like it to be linked to, or set it up and contact membership@dartington.org to arrange for the welcome pack to be sent to you first.

Can I buy a membership today but have it start at a date in the future?

Yes, but this will need to be requested and purchased over the phone. Please contact us via 01803 847021.

How much are member parking permits?

Parking permits are £30 per year and are valid for up to two registered vehicles per permit (see How Many Parking Permits Can I Buy? for details).

When you buy your parking permit we will ask you for the registration details of your car which we will ‘white list’ against our automatic parking system. Although you will not have a physical permit, your number plates will be registered and you will not receive a fine when parking in any of our car parks. It is your responsibility to keep us updated with your most current registration details.

Full terms and conditions of parking permit use as a Dartington Member can be found here.

How many parking permits can I buy?

One – but the number of vehicles registered to it depends on which membership type you buy.

Two vehicles can be registered per Joint or Family membership.

One vehicle can be registered per Solo Membership, however if you have a second car you can register a second vehicle, but you will only be permitted to park one vehicle at any given time on the estate, enabling you to switch between vehicles that you use.

Please ensure your car registrations are up to date on your account. To amend or add a vehicle registration you will need to email membership@dartington.org

Do I need a membership in order to buy a parking permit?

Yes, parking permits are one of the benefits for supporting the Trust and are only available to our members, and cannot be bought separately. Residential and business parking permits are also available for people who live and work on the estate and these can be applied for by contacting carparking@dartington.org.

How long is my membership valid for?

Your membership is valid for a year from the date of purchase.

How can I renew my membership?

You can renew in several ways:

  • You can log in to your Dartington account and renew online. You can also opt to auto renew next time.
  • Or you can set up a direct debit payment when you purchase membership and then one month before your membership is due to expire, we will send you a reminder with the option of ending your membership or continuing for another year.
  • Or you can just pop into the Welcome Centre when your membership is due to expire and renew at the till, or renew over the phone by calling 01803 847021.

Can I add a parking permit once my membership has already started?

Yes, you can add a parking permit at any time during your membership and it will be valid for the duration of your annual membership (no matter when you purchase it) and will need to be renewed at the same time as your membership.

Can I set up my account to auto renew when it’s time to renew my membership?

Yes, you simply select the ‘auto renew’ button when you renew your membership online.

What do I do if I need to change my details, such as car registration, email or address?

Simply contact the Welcome Centre on 01803 867 514 or email membership@dartington.org with your request and we will amend it for you. If you need an updated permit with your new car registration, then we will pop it in the post for you.

Are membership events free?

As a charity we price some of our membership events to cover our costs. Other events are free of charge and we will always let you know about any costs when we advertise the event.

How can I donate towards the charity through my membership?

Please either contact the Welcome Centre to process a donation or get in touch with the fundraising team on 01803 847027 to set up a donation. Or you can donate online here.

Can I give my membership card to friends or family to use?

No. Dartington is a charity – and we offer a very good package of discounts because we believe in supporting our members and encouraging them to use our estate, but we lose revenue if people misuse the cards.  If you hold a Solo Membership, then your discount only applies to you. If however you hold a Joint or Family membership, then the discount extends to up to two adults (Joint) and one or two adults and six children (depending on which Family membership you hold) respectively.

I want to leave the membership scheme and have my name taken off the email list / database.

No problem at all. Just drop us an email to membership@dartington.org with your request and we’ll remove you from the database. Also, you can click on the link at the bottom of any email communication and opt out of any future membership communications. Unfortunately we cannot refund any money if you decide to leave part way through a membership year.

I’m a Family Member, how do I use the free BarnKids voucher?

You get one free BarnKids cinema voucher for use anytime during the validity of your membership. The offer is linked to your membership, so if you log in to your account and pop a BarnKids film into your basket, you will see that your offer will automatically apply at the checkout. If you are booking at the box office, simply give them your name and email letting them know you’d like to use your free voucher and they can do this for you.
