As part of our continuing efforts to diversify access to training in horticulture and regenerative agriculture, this scholarship is open to successful applicants who identify as having an ethnic minority background and who would be unable to otherwise afford the tuition fees.
The scholarship will enable the student to make the most of the fantastic tuition provided by our growing team, led by our Head Gardener Colum Pawson, covering the full cost of not just fees, but also accommodation and food for the entire six-month residency, running from the start of the main growing season in April right through to the end of the harvest in October. This includes a stay in private accommodation with shared bathroom and all vegetarian meals from supper on the day of your arrival through until the lunchtime before your departure. Costs for any field trips, materials as well as all teaching sessions are also included.
The Horticulture Residency offers an exciting opportunity to learn the practical skills needed to grow food and practice horticulture whilst working with nature and biological cycles.
Schumacher College, and the Dartington Trust of which it is an integral part, has an international reputation for its holistic and systems approach to a range of ecological subjects, teaching about regenerative agriculture and horticulture alongside economics, design thinking, movement practice and much more. We have over nine acres of land integrating food production with beauty, biodiversity and quiet spaces for contemplation and all members of the community are encouraged to share ideas and collaborate across the different programmes.
This scholarship adds to an existing suite of measures we’ve brought in recently to make studying here more accessible to a much wider range of people. These include a reduction in our postgraduate tuition fees, an increase in the number of scholarship awards offered to exceptional candidates, and a substantial bursary scheme offered to the first 25 successful applicants to join our BSc Regenerative Food and Farming degree in September.
