About this event
Join us during the joyful Spring Bank Holiday weekend with Indian music, dance and creative connections with nature. Curated by Sanju Sahai and featuring Tabla, Sarod, Vocal, Tar Shehnai and Kathak Dance by Jaymini Sahai.
Hindustani Classical music originates from the Northern regions of the Indian subcontinent and places emphasis on improvisation and the exploration of all aspects of a Raga. The word Raga derives from the Sanskrit word “Rang” meaning “colour”. We can say a Raga is that which ‘colours the mind’ with a particular emotion. Just as each colour has a unique hue, each Raga has a unique sound which is associated with certain emotions, time of day, season and deities. This evening’s performance is a traditional classical Indian music performance also featuring Kathak Dance.
Representing the 6th generation of Benares Gharana of tabla, Sanju Sahai is well known for mesmerising and captivating his audience with his power, virtuosity and complete spontaneity. Joining Sanju Sahai is one of India’s finest young sarod artists, Debasmita Bhattacharya. Completing the lineup is Jaymini Sahai presenting the elegant North Indian Classical dance, Kathak.
